Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Kalimantan Island (Borneo) is one of the world`s flora center because the diversity of trees in a small plot of land in the island`s forest equals to those in the whole Papua or South America, according to the forestry ministry`s a press statement.

The Island has the richest flora on the Sunda Islands because it has 10,000 to 15,000 special of floral plants.

The flora diversity on the Borneo island is as rich as those in the whole Africa, which is 40 times bigger than Borneo. Continue reading »

Thousands of people in traditional Dayak costumes marched down the streets of Pontianak, while a number of youths, wielding daggers and blowpipes, danced on top of vehicles with graceful women wearing peacock feather headgears.

The Dayak ethnic community living in the capital of West Kalimantan held an annual festival called the Dayak Gawai Week from May 18 to 24. The 26th festival took place at the traditional house, Rumah Betang or Rumah Pajang, on Jl. Soetoyo, Pontianak. Continue reading »

The inauguration of “Batik Village” kicked off at 11 am on Saturday, May 21, 2011 with more than 2,000 visitors were expected to swarming Jl. Palbatu Raya near Tebet in South Jakarta over the weekend.

The two-day festival ran from morning till late afternoon and with its theme of “The beauty of Nusantara Batik”, it featured several booths displaying batik from Bogor, Brebes, Cirebon, Demak, Yogyakarta, Madura, Pekalongan, Solo and even from Jambi. Continue reading »

BATIK, is not only beautiful for clothes, bags, or other clothing products. It’s also beautiful and attractive looking to coat the body of train. Well, with the respect of its beauty, the State Enterprises Minister, Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism launched a railway carriage with batik motifs. In the future, they will apply this idea to other transportation mode like aircraft or taxi.

Previously, batik train has been launched at the Regional Operations II Bandung, 15 February. Batik was chosen because it has become a world heritage and has been recognized by UNESCO, in addition to wayang, keris and angklung. Continue reading »
